CES-MED participates in the LIFE platform meeting on urban climate action in Barcelona

The CES-MED project will participate in a platform meeting on Climate Action in Urban Areas, which will be held in Barcelona on the 21-22 June 2017.

The two-day event brings together LIFE project beneficiaries, competent authorities and other stakeholders from across Europe to discuss specific actions to advance climate change adaptation and mitigation in the European and international urban context. The meeting is hosted by the Provincial Council of Barcelona, the coordinating beneficiary of the LIFE Clinomics (LIFE15 CCA/ES/000102) project and in cooperation with the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) and the Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) of the European Commission.

The working group sessions will focus on case studies and will allow for the presentation and exchange of good practices in specific sectors, while the plenary sessions will address overall policies, support and coordination mechanisms.

The LIFE platform meeting will be an opportunity for CES-MED to showcase the continues efforts of the project to enhance the skills and knowledge of South Mediterranean municipalities in energy planning, urban adaptation and mitigation to climate change.

CES-MED's Team Leader, Mr. Naguib Amin will present the project progress for the period 2013 – 2017 and the envisaged actions for 2017 – 2018.  He will give an overview of tangible outcomes and achievements of the project, amongst which the creation and association of a National Coordination Group (NCG) and a designated Focal Point representative in each of the eight countries covered by the project, twenty three (23) Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) elaborated for municipalities (5 more in the pipeline), and setting up a SSM (SEAP Support Mechanism) to sustain replicability and linkages with CoM Global and other initiatives targeting sustainable energy, resilience in urban areas and mitigation to climate change.
