Climate Summit for Local and Regional Leaders at COP22

The Climate Summit for Local and Regional Leaders had 1,100 participants from 114 countries, representing more than 780 local and regional governments. The event was organised on November 14, (09:00 - 18:00) at the COP22 in Marrakesh.
There was wide representation of the African continent from 50 countries, as well as 11 representatives from Small Islands States. This wide spectrum of participants enabled a comprehensive exchange of issues and possible solutions as well as the initial definition of a collaborative road map to address financial issues.
At the Summit closing session, the Marrakech Roadmap for Action has been read by Mr Ahmed Touizi, the Region of Marrakech-Safi Vice-President, and adopted by acclamation. The tow Champions of the Global Climate Action Agenda, Ms Hakima El Haité and Ms Laurence Tubiana received the Roadmap.
The Roadmap will launch two important actions:
  • For 2017, the launch of a Global Campaign for localizing Climate Finance;
  • For 2020, the implementation of a Global Action Framework for localizing Climate Finance
