Mayors of CES-MED Cities will share their experience with the project at the COP23 in Bonn

On November 13, Mayors of CES-MED cities in the Southern-Mediterranean, collaborating with the project, will participate at the COP23 Session on the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM): cities and local authorities for climate action.
The Session is organised by the European Commission, Committee of the Regions, Global Covenant of Mayors Secretariats, and Regional Covenant of Mayors Secretariats. The full-day event brings together local and regional leaders, representatives of governments, the finance community and business from across the world to share good practices and opportunities for promoting the transition to low emission and climate resilient economies.
Mr. Miguel Arias Cañete, Commissioner for Climate and Energy, European Commission and Mr. Karl-Heinz Lambertz, President of European Committee of the Regions, will address the participants during the opening.
Four main topics will be addressed during the session of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy - transatlantic dialogue on climate change; partnerships between cities, regions, and national governments for accelerating climate action; facilitating access to finance for climate change mitigation and resilience in cities; and political leadership for integrated planning.

Three CES-MED cities will be represented by their Mayors to share the actions for a low-carbon and climate resilient future implemented on local level and the benefits for municipalities, which have developed Sustainable Energy and Climate Action.
CES-MED supports 21 municipalities in the preparation of their Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) and Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SEAPs).
The GCoM is an international alliance of cities and local governments, which formally brings together the Covenant of Mayors and the Compact of Mayors, to share a long-term vision of a world where committed mayors and local governments – in alliance with partners – accelerate ambitious, measurable climate and energy initiatives, for a climate resilient future, by meeting and exceeding the Paris Agreement objectives.
